STYLING YOUR SESSION

The golden rule is to stay true to yourself—there’s no need to conform to any specific look or style that doesn’t feel natural to you. Whether you prefer dresses or jeans and a t-shirt, embrace what feels right for you.

Your clothing should be a reflection of your unique personality and style, ensuring you feel confident and comfortable throughout your session. Choose outfits you can move freely in.

Let’s start by considering our location. Where will our shoot take place? Your outfit should work harmoniously with the surroundings. If we’re at the beach, a relaxed, laid-back vibe is perfect: shorts, flowing dresses, and bare feet. If the weather is chilly, go for cosy layers, chunky jumpers, warm socks, and boots.

Colours to choose

It’s probably not surprising that I adore neutrals—soft, muted tones and earthy hues. However, I don’t just mean black, white and beige; neutrals come in various shades: think rust instead of bright red, olive green instead of neon, and peach instead of hot pink. The goal is not to distract too much from your connection; bright colours can sometimes do that. Choose three or four complementary colours to establish a cohesive palette for your photos, then weave these hues throughout your outfits. This approach ensures your family looks harmonious without appearing overly coordinated by dressing everyone in the same colours.

Harness the power of your wardrobe to evoke mood and emotion in your photos.

Pattern & Texture

Embrace subtlety and avoid overwhelming patterns that may detract from the photo’s focal point—you. Opt for patterns with small or understated prints in neutral tones, allowing you to remain the centre of attention. While it’s best to use patterns sparingly, consider incorporating textures to add depth and dimension to your images. Think of the tactile qualities of linen, gauze, muslin, denim, and chunky knits. Natural fibres can create a soft, organic, warm feel to your photos, whether it’s a delicate crochet blanket for your newborn session or layering a cosy cardigan over your dress.

Avoiding any Distraction.

While I never want to impose rules, my goal is to create timeless memories, so I have a few suggestions for what to avoid wearing. I advise steering clear of logos and considering removing smartwatches. It’s also a good idea to check your wrists for hair ties, as these can often make their way into the photos.
